Canvas & Orchids Retreat

Koh Kong, Cambodia

The southwest province of Koh Kong is a region close to the Thai border, the halfway point on the southern Bangkok to Phnom Penh route. Koh Kong is known for its most Cambodian supernatural landscapes and habitats, including deserted islands and beaches, two thunder waterfalls and mangrove-lined rivers, as well as the dense jungle of the Cardamom Mountains – an area which remains ecologically-sound, largely down to its remoteness.

Situated on a bend of the Tatai River on the outer reaches of the Cardamom Mountains and just a short distance from the main town of Koh Kong, Canvas & Orchids Retreat is a comfortable base in which to

experience some of Cambodia’s stunning ecology, including its wild mangrove forests. Only accessible by boat, this retreat has a total of 13 safari-style tents sit on a pontoon with large balconies, each offering a spacious and light retreat with a jungle expedition vibe. At the heart of the retreat is a central area housing library and communal terrace, whilst guests can dine on delicious Khmer cuisine at the al fresco restaurant, enjoying locally sourced seafood and vegetables. There is a range of activity programmes available, including kayaking and trekking, as well as boat trips to remote fishing communities.

LOCATION

  • At the base of the Cardamom Mountains, with towering rainforest as its backdrop. This will be a longer transfer to the retreat – around 4-hour drive from Sihanoukville airport, and then the final leg by boat.
